Therabloc® or also known on it’s generic name – atenolol, a medication use to treat high blood pressure (Hypertension). Indications for this includes but not limited to Hypertension, Angina Pectoris, acute Myocardial Infarction and other contraction related irregularities of the heart.
Important information regarding this drug would be – do not stop taking atenolol without consulting your physician. Stopping suddenly may cause an imbalance hemodynamically thus making your condition worse. Also, if you need any type of surgery, it is strongly advised that you may need to temporarily withdraw taking atenolol. Proper history taking would greatly help in dealing the issue.
One important thing to consider is the atenolol is only a part of a cocktail of treatment for hypertension that may be supplemented by diet, exercise and more importantly – weight control. Alcohol avoidance will be much more produce an optimal effect because alcohol can increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking the drug.

Therabloc (atenolol) side effects include but not limited to:
- slow heartbeat
- feeling of light headedness
- sudden dyspnea (shortness of breath)
- Swelling of ankles
- nausea and/or vomiting
- feeling of depression
