Dronabinol is a man-made form of cannabis (also known as marijuana).

Dronabinol is used to treat loss of appetite that causes weight loss in people with AIDS.

Dronabinol is also used to treat severe nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy. Dronabinol is for use only when other medications have been unable to control the nausea and vomiting.

    If any of the following symptoms of overdose occur while taking dronabinol, get emergency help immediately:

    redness of the eyes
    seizures
    slurred speech
    unusual drowsiness or dullness
    Severity: Minor
    Some of the side effects that can occur with dronabinol may not need medical attention. As your body adjusts to the medicine during treatment these side effects may go away. Your health care professional may also be able to tell you about ways to reduce or prevent some of these side effects. If any of the following side effects continue, are bothersome or if you have any questions about them, check with your health care professional:

    trouble with thinking
    vomiting

    flushing of the face
    lack or loss of strength
    restlessness

    Burning, dry, or itching eyes
    continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
    cough
    diarrhea
    discharge, excessive tearing
    headache
    hearing loss
    redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
    runny nose
    sneezing
    stuffy nose
