Doxorubicin is a cancer medication that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.

Doxorubicin is used to treat different types of cancers that affect the breast, bladder, ovary, thyroid, stomach, lungs, bones, nerve tissues, muscles, joints, and soft tissues. Doxorubicin is also used to treat Hodgkin’s disease and certain types of leukemia.

    Cough or hoarseness accompanied by fever or chills
    darkening or redness of the skin (if you recently had radiation treatment)
    fast or irregular heartbeat
    fever or chills
    joint pain
    lower back or side pain accompanied by fever or chills
    pain at the injection site
    painful or difficult urination accompanied by fever or chills
    red streaks along the injected vein
    shortness of breath
    stomach pain
    swelling of the feet and lower legs
    Black, tarry stools
    blood in the urine
    pinpoint red spots on the skin
    unusual bleeding or bruising
    Severity: Minor
    Some of the side effects that can occur with doxorubicin may not need medical attention. As your body adjusts to the medicine during treatment these side effects may go away. Your health care professional may also be able to tell you about ways to reduce or prevent some of these side effects. If any of the following side effects continue, are bothersome or if you have any questions about them, check with your health care professional:

    More common
    Hair loss, thinning of hair
    nausea and vomiting
    sores in the mouth and on the lips
    Less common
    Darkening of the soles, palms, or nails
    Side Effects: Post Treatment
    After you stop taking this drug, it is possible that you may still experience side effects that need medical attention. If you notice any of the following side effects check with your doctor immediately:

    Fast or irregular heartbeat
    shortness of breath
    swelling of the feet and lower legs
